Our History

The late Pastor Jesse Somerville Jr decided to start a broadcast ministry, which he attended every morning leading up to the official date he started the church. In January 1995, starting a church was just a thought. A thought that he ran from, because he was afraid of the task that he felt God had put before him. He wrestled with it 13 to 14 years prior to January 1995,, then suddenly the peace of God, came over him and he heard the voice of God saying it’s time for you to step our on faith and get started.

The month of August was the actual starting month of NHCLC. Pastor Butch Dye was kind enough to let him use his church for our evening services until we leased a storefront, which we called our church home. We rented the building out in October of 1995 and resided there for 10 years. Those were some of the best services that we ever had in that little storefront building. Considering how much we were paying for rent, made him realize that it was time for him to start looking for a place that NHCLC could call home.

He had a vision of what he wanted, and that was a beautiful church that sits upon a hill. In 2002, he set out to look for his envisioned place. When he first saw the land, he knew that was it. It was full of trees and limbs. It looked a bit rough, but that didn’t deter him from what he felt was a prize possession. He went and purchased the land and paid for it in full. in 2003, the loan was secured to build a church. In 2004, it was finally time. February was the month we finally broke ground. It was an exciting time and he didn’t miss a day of coming to look at the church that was being built. March 27, 2005 was our first Sunday in our beautiful sanctuary. As time went on, he finally realized the shape and condition of his health and felt the need to step down. After much prayer, going back and forth, he wanted to do what was best for the ministry. In October of 2016, he installed Pastor Jesse Somerville III who is now in pastoral ship.
